Decorative and fine arts are an important component of a well-designed office or home. Color and proportion is essential to a comfortable environment. Elaine Ligelis of Gallery Petalouth, as a registered designer, has access to fine furnishings by specialized craftsmen. She works both as a consultant and a project manager. Her services are convenient and personalized and she is used to working with a variety of budgets.

Job Overview: This client wasn’t sure why her new kitchen backsplash and counter tops weren’t “popping.” She also wanted to update some of the furnishings to freshen the open floor plan.

A busy backsplash must have color and shapes to tie to the rest of the kitchen. This one didn’t. I suggested painting the cabinets white, updating the hardware and painting over the floral mural on the soffit. This chosen color would complement the family room carpeting and new sofa. Now the backsplash makes a statement. New kitchen counter stools were replaced with a more substantial style and in black, which connects all the elements.
